Last weekend, a few friends and I decided to really make the most of our free time. So many weekend have we frittered away our time down at the pub, watching the football, spending untold amounts of money on beer. Of course, it’s never exactly a complete waste of time if you’re enjoying yourselves, but we’ve pretty much had the same weekend over and over for months on end.
Last weekend was a result of talking about the stuff we get up to over a few pints. In the end, we were caught between deciding on going to play golf, or spend our time at one of the great many theme parks the UK has to offer. Now, we didn’t just want to have an average day out at any old theme park, oh no; we wanted to maximise the use of our free time and make sure that the best part of a day was spent on roller coasters, rather than queuing and shepherding people between bathrooms and drink stands. In the end, we decided on Thorpe Park. Why? Probably because one of the group stumbled upon a truly fantastic deal to stay at a Thorpe Park hotel in order to truly make the most of our stay. Seeing as we live at little away from Thorpe Park (closer to Alton Towers, in fact), not many of us had actually been there properly before, so we decided that it would be a fresh and exciting experience for us all. Not that Alton Towers is bad or anything, no, it’s fantastic, but we’ve all been there a little too many times.
So, we stayed the night before at this place, had a few pints, naturally, before hitting the hay nice and early for an early start to get to the theme park at its opening hours. It worked; we were first in and managed to do all of the big rides before most of the guests had even got out of bed. Then we had the luxury of returning to our hotel, which also happened to support a number of UK golf holidays. Fantastic.
