Shopping in Edinburgh

The Scottish capital of Edinburgh is a fascinating and colourful city, which offers a wealth of attractions for visitors and holidaymakers. From the majestic castle to the lively Edinburgh Festival, there will be activities on offer to suit all tastes, during a trip to this historic destination.

In the region known as Old Town, close to many of the leading Princes Street Hotels Edinburgh boasts a great range of shops, bars, cafés and restaurants. Many of the streets here were built across multiple levels, giving the surreal illusion of one city constructed above the labyrinthine streets and alleyways of another.

If you’re planning to visit Edinburgh on a shopping trip, this is likely to be where you start off. Along the length of Princes Street you’ll be able to find a very wide selection of shops, which range from elaborate designer boutiques and fashion outlets, to countless smaller, independent retailers – here you can browse through antiquarian bookshops, new age crystal shops, vintage clothes markets and record stalls. It’s certainly a great place for anybody hoping to spot a bargain, or pick up a unique, one of a kind souvenir!

After a shopping spree in Edinburgh’s Old Town you’ll also find yourself ideally placed, to settle down and catch your breath in one of the area’s fine cafés or bars… or if you’ve still got any energy left, you could even head up to the majestic Edinburgh Castle, for a little sightseeing.

Then again, if you’re looking for famous brands and massive department stores, then you may be better off heading towards the West End of the city. Here you’ll find a plethora of supermarkets, mainstream outlets and glittering factory showrooms. The West End also offers some luxurious accommodation options, with stylish, comfortable properties available such as the Murrayfield Hotel.

So, no matter which part of town you head towards first, you’ll soon see just how many options there are on offer for a shopping trip to Edinburgh. Not only that, but you’ll be able to combine your bargain hunting with visits to some of Scotland’s most significant sites… making this a destination which truly has something to offer everyone!
