Highlands

Perhaps the most well known region of Scotland are the Highlands. I had heard of this area from numerous people that have had the opportunity to visit, but I never thought that I would find myself there, until last year.
Since we were staying at a Scottish highland hotel, it was more than appropriate for us to visit this historic region. While I was visiting the area I had the opportunity to learn a little more about this very unique area, and this is what I came up with.

Somewhere between the 15th and 20th century, the exact time is still undetermined, there was a major language difference between this area and the surrounding lowlands. Thus, it was only natural that a division occurred. Most of those that could be found in the what are commonly referred to as the Highlands spoke Gaelic, while the surrounding lowlands had a different dialect. Those that live in the Highlands still speak quite a bit of Gaelic, but for the most part they speak Scottish English. I am not sure if this is actually a new form of English, or just English with a very heavy Scottish accent. Either way, should you find yourself in Scotland, a trip to the Highlands is most certainly worth your time and effort. Whether you are staying in a highland hotel, one of the Hotels in Perthshire, or even a fancy hotel in Edinburgh, the Highlands are never too far away. Just ask someone at the information desk about them and I am sure that they will be more than willing to provide you with all the information you need. This is probably your best option when it comes to obtaining information on anything to do with this fascinating country, as those that are employed by hotels are typically locals. They know what is going on in their country, and which attractions are the best.
