Algarve Cuisine

In the past the Algarve regional was mostly inhabited with fisherman. This somehow determined the local cuisine and the codfish as one of the national dishes. Each of the parts of the world have its unique traditional dishes for Christmas dinner here in Algarve it is the codfish with boiled potatoes. The local cuisine not only in the fine restaurants in the different cities but also in Algarve hotels is based on fish, shellfish, octopus and other sea food. In the interior regions of the Portugal it is not exactly the same as the chicken is the preferred meat. In general the nowadays traditional cuisine is a combination between the food from the coast areas and interior one.

 All the popular traditional dishes are based on fish, seafood, chicken, vegetables and fruits. Its a kind of the Mediterranean taste but not exactly as there slight changes in the spices used. There is just no way traditional food not to be companied with the traditional wine and good desert after that. Portugal wines are famous all over the world as the top high class wines. In order local traditional cuisine and wines to be popularized don't be surprised that your Algarve hotel are arranging all the buffets with it. Moreover that this is a great way for you to taste as much as you can and to feel as a local.
